UI Employees – Our Greatest Asset
UI employees are devoted to the communities in which they live and work, and are personally and professionally active in Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs, Chambers of Commerce, schools and non-profit organizations. UI encourages employee volunteerism by providing matching support for a variety of employee fundraising activities and membership in service organizations.
Every year, UI conducts its own company-wide campaign to support the four major United Way organizations in our service territory: the United Way of Greater New Haven, the Valley United Way, the United Way of Eastern Fairfield County and the Milford United Way. Employees generously give to the campaign to address the needs of communities in which they live and work. In addition, key UI executives and managers have chaired regional campaigns, directed major campaign cabinet divisions, and served on boards, lending expertise and providing guidance to United Way organizations in our community.
UI employees are experts in their respective fields. Realizing that the people we serve often want to know more about UI, employees are available to address community groups, civic clubs, associations and other organizations. UI’s Speakers Bureau volunteers present information on a variety of subjects, including electric utility restructuring, environmental responsibility, electrical safety, meter theft, emergency preparedness, billing issues, energy conservation and careers in the utility industry.
We are often able to combine UI grants and employee participation to increase our impact with key non-profit partners. In the 2007 New Haven Science Fair, UI was a key sponsor and employees from our offices in Shelton and New Haven volunteered as judges. UI has been a sponsor of the Easter Seals Fantasy of Lights celebration for many years, and each year UI employees volunteer to design the display layout and help greet visitors and direct cars.
Under UI’s Matching Gifts to Education Program, the company matches dollar for dollar employee donations to any eligible educational institution in Connecticut. The company provides a 50% match to out-of-state institutions.
