Reduce Your Costs To Run Major Appliances
Clothes washers...air conditioners...refrigerators....these are all big energy users in your home, so if you switch to ENERGY STAR labeled appliances, you'll notice a huge difference on your utility bill. Earning the ENERGY STAR means a product meets strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.
ENERGY STAR qualified clothes washers use 50% less energy and water than standard models. That means in one year you can save up to $110 in energy costs. When purchasing a new unit, look at the Modified Energy Factor (MEF). The higher the MEF, the more efficient the washer, and the less money it will cost you to run it. Also, most ENERGY STAR qualified washers extract more water from clothes during the spin cycle. This reduces the drying time, saving energy, and wear and tear on your clothes.
In 2008, UI is not offering rebates to their customers for the purchase of ENERGY STAR qualified clothes washers.
