Employees of AVANGRID and its Connecticut companies — United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas and Connecticut Natural Gas — cleared more than 20 bags of garbage from the trails at East Rock Park in New Haven on Saturday, Oct. 7.

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut — Oct. 7, 2017 — More than a dozen employees of AVANGRID, Inc. (NYSE: AGR) and its Connecticut companies, joined by friends and family members, performed trail maintenance and picked up trash at East Rock Park Saturday, as part of a global Volunteer Day initiative.

The local event was organized by AVANGRID and its local companies — United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas and Connecticut Natural Gas — in partnership with AVANGRID’s majority shareowner, the Iberdrola Group. The New Haven volunteers worked with Friends of East Rock Park, a nonprofit community and environmental advocacy group.

Another group of AVANGRID employee volunteers worked in Bridgeport Saturday, sorting clothes to help Bridgeport Rescue Mission prepare for its Great Thanksgiving Project, when it provides warm winter clothes and holiday dinners to the needy.

Across the United States, more than 220 employees of AVANGRID and its companies participated in about 20 volunteer activities. The employees picked up trash in parks, stocked food bank shelves, worked on farms, landscaped, painted, cleaned and more in locations from Portland, Oregon to Windham, Maine. AVANGRID is a diversified U.S. energy and utility company based in Orange, Connecticut.

Iberdrola oversaw similar Volunteer Day efforts globally, with hundreds of employees expected to participate in countries where the corporation and its affiliates have operations, including Spain, the United Kingdom, Mexico and Brazil. The goal of the annual event, now in its 11th year, is to harness employees’ community spirit in support of projects that align with the corporation’s values.
