In the Environment

We’re committed to doing what’s right—supporting our communities, preserving natural resources and helping shape a better tomorrow.

Our approach

Our sustainable business strategy helps us stay resilient in a changing world. Infrastructure resiliency can help us respond to emerging threats, such as increasingly extreme weather patterns. Avoiding impacts to nature and minimizing waste can help secure the supply of natural resources we all rely on. Advancing new energy technologies can help improve efficiency and manage the country’s need for more power.

Initiatives at UI

Investing in infrastructure resiliency and reliability

These types of projects, such as the Congress Street Substation Flood Wall in Bridgeport, protect against extreme weather risks like flooding.

Empowering customers to make responsible decisions

This includes supporting customer energy sources like solar; building awareness of efficiency and savings options; and enabling access to smart energy solutions like EV chargers. Through Energize CT™, our customers connect with energy efficiency experts who make upgrades to reduce costs and waste.

These types of initiatives include battery storage that can provide emergency backup power to critical facilities, and participation in the State of Connecticut’s Innovative Energy Solutions (IES) Program.

Preserving our natural resources

This includes environmental remediation projects such as English Station and Chapel Street, and our long-standing partnership with the Beardsley Zoo, providing volunteers and financial support.
