The United Illuminating Company has embarked on an ambitious program to ensure that our customers continue to receive the high level of performance and reliability to which they are accustomed. This system-wide upgrade to our transmission and distribution equipment, the hardware that delivers electricity to your home or business, is vital as we address the increasing demand placed on our ability to meet your needs.

Like items you use daily --- your car, your television, general household appliances --- the parts that make up our transmission and distribution system both age and suffer wear. With a normal operating life of up to 40 years, we don’t often have to do such an extensive modernization but now is the time. If the work is unduly delayed, avoidable problems will likely occur.

Beginning with the Trumbull Substation, this ten-year, billion dollar plus effort is key to securing the energy future of all UI customers.
