eesmarts is an energy efficiency and clean, renewable energy learning initiative. The program is funded and paid for by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund and administered by The Connecticut Light and Power Company and The United Illuminating Company.

The vision of eesmarts is to facilitate students’ understanding of the science, math and technology related to clean, renewable energy and electricity in order to create an energy-efficient ethic among all school-age students in Connecticut.

All eesmarts workshops and lessons fully align with the Connecticut Mastery Test, the Connecticut State Science Framework, the Connecticut State Mathematics Framework and the National Science Standards.

Workshops
The eesmarts program provides professional development workshops free of charge to educators across the state of Connecticut for grades Kindergarten through Middle School. Workshops are led by the Project to Increase Mastery of Mathematics and Science (PIMMS) of Wesleyan University.

eesmarts workshops are interactive and cross-disciplinary providing educators with a hands-on examination of the inquiry method using activity based learning opportunities. After completing an eesmarts workshop, teachers will feel confident in leading their students through tangible applications of energy, energy efficiency and clean renewable energy activities.

Custom workshops are available for school districts interested in training all teachers in a particular grade level or topic of interest across grade levels.

General workshops are typically offered as part of the Summer Institute of which CEU credits are awarded and teachers are eligible for a travel stipend.

Upon completion of an eesmarts workshop, educators have the opportunity to order lessons for their classrooms. Educators must participate in an eesmarts workshop in order to receive lesson materials.

Lessons
eesmarts lessons are fully aligned with the Connecticut Science Frameworks including the science curriculum standards and state assessment expectations for grades PreK through Grade 9.

Each eesmarts lesson features material for students, hands-on activities, detailed teacher guidebooks, extensions and evaluation tools. The lessons are flexible and interdisciplinary and the program fits seamlessly into any class curriculum.

The Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund
Created to address Connecticut’s increasing energy needs – and rising costs – the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund (CEEF) is an initiative to help homeowners and renters, small and large businesses, and state and local governments alike get in the habit of using energy more efficiently.

In the share interest of implementing conservation measures that are energy-efficient, cost-effective and easy to live with, the CEEF is the result of a partnership with the state’s utility companies and funded by a small charge on customers’ bills.

The mission of the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund is:

  • To advance the efficient use of energy.
  • To reduce air pollution and negative environmental impacts.
  • To promote economic development and energy security.

The eesmarts program is funded by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund and administered by The Connecticut Light and Power Company and The United Illuminating Company.
