Connecticut state budget impacts UI energy efficiency programs
November 9, 2017
Dear Valued Residential and Business Customers:
Notice: State Budget Impacts on Energy Efficiency programs
Please be advised that program changes are forthcoming due to the recently approved Connecticut State budget that will affect residential and business energy efficiency programs provided by United Illuminating (UI).
The funds collected through a charge on UI customers’ electric bills are being diverted to offset the Connecticut State budget deficit; these funds are scheduled to be used to reduce the deficit for the next two years.
This charge supports a portfolio of programs and initiatives to Connecticut residents and businesses with valuable energy efficiency savings delivered through a network of highly qualified local companies.
We are currently working with regulators to determine how these constraints will impact programs for the remainder of this year, 2018 and 2019. Our goal is to continue to serve customers to the best of our ability with these budget constraints. Once these changes are known we will provide further information to our customers.

Pat McDonnell, Senior Director, Energy Services, United Illuminating
