Orange, Conn. — August 15, 2025 — Today, United Illuminating (UI), Connecticut Natural Gas (CNG), and Southern Connecticut Gas (SCG), subsidiaries of Avangrid, Inc., announced the expansion of the companies’ local Government Relations organization with the hiring of new team members, each with deep experience in Connecticut state government. Vice President of State Government Relations John Vamos joined the U/CNG/SCG team in January 2025 following more than 22 years with the Connecticut General Assembly. Program Manager for State Government Relations Gregory “Greg” Davis joined in August 2025 after two years with the Connecticut House Democrats and 10 years of experience in technology, change management, and outreach and recruitment.

“With utility service increasingly essential to hundreds of thousands of Connecticut homes and businesses, it’s more important than ever that we have a strong team working with our partners in state government,” said Frank Reynolds, President & CEO of UI, CNG, and SCG. “With their extensive experience in the Connecticut General Assembly and elsewhere, they have first-hand experience in the complex legislative processes. My sincere welcome to both John and Greg: all of us are excited to have you onboard.”

Vamos began in his career in the Connecticut General Assembly in 2003, when he joined the Labor and Public Employees Committee as a Deputy Clerk. He became a Legislative Aide with the House Republican Office in 2004 and was subsequently promoted to Research and Policy Analyst and, later, the Director of Research and Policy. In this role, he led a team of 10 staff members to support policy goals and research for the caucus while helping to shape policy initiatives. He also served as the caucus’ principal policy analyst on energy-related matters. Vamos graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Connecticut in 2002.

“Since joining the UI/CNG/SCG team, I have been proud to play a role in strengthening our ability to provide our essential services to customers more safely, reliably, and affordably through policy initiatives in the state legislature,” said Vamos. “Strong, thoughtful energy policy is critical to Connecticut’s core issues – from cost of living to economic development – and I’m looking forward to continuing the conversation with elected officials to make UI, CNG, and SCG a key partner in ensuring these policies are as beneficial as possible for their constituents.”

Davis joined the Connecticut House Democrats as the AI Policy Analyst and Outreach Coordinator in October 2023. There, he organized town halls, workshops, and other public outreach events to increase public awareness of state programs. He was also appointed to the Social Equity Council by Speaker of the Connecticut House of Representatives Matt Ritter. Prior to his role in the Connecticut General Assembly, Davis was a Technical Sourcer and Program Lead for Meta (Facebook), where, in partnership with senior leadership, he aligned recruiting and sourcing initiatives with organizational strategies, market trends, and the company’s diversity goals. Davis graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management and Business in 2015.

“I’m very glad to be joining UI, CNG, and SCG,” said Davis. “During my time in the General Assembly, it was clear that energy issues are top of mind for so many Connecticut residents, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and stakeholders across the state. I’m looking forward to working first-hand on energy-related policies to ensure UI, CNG, and SCG can continue providing safe and reliable power to our customers.”
