UI Crews Make Significant Progress Restoring Power as Nor’easter Continues

Around 25,000 UI customers have been restored since storms began on Friday (with b/roll)

 


 

ORANGE, Conn. — September 27, 2026 – United Illuminating (UI), a subsidiary of Avangrid, Inc., is continuing restoration efforts after the Nor’easter brought another round of heavy rain and strong winds overnight. Since the start of the storm, UI has restored power for around 25,000 customers.

 

“The Nor’easter intensified overnight, causing additional tree damage, broken poles, and new outages across our service territory,” said Angela Baccaro, UI spokesperson. “Our crews are continuing to work through this severe weather, and they quickly brought power back to around 25,000 customers since the storms began on Friday. After assessing the storm damage from last night, our crews have been clearing debris, addressing downed wires, and making repairs. In collaboration with local officials, we are working to reopen roads and restore power as quickly and safely as possible. We ask that everyone stays away from downed wires, and we appreciate our customers’ patience as we respond during the rest of this storm.”

Safety Tips

  • Stay far away from downed wires and anything that may be in contact with them. Report downed wires and other electrical hazards to UI at 800.722.5584.
  • If a downed wire comes in contact with your vehicle, stay inside, call 911 and wait for help. If you must get out because of fire or other danger, avoid making contact with the vehicle and the ground at the same time. Jump clear of the vehicle, land with your feet together, and hop away with both feet together, or shuffle away without lifting your feet. Don’t run or stride.

  • Report outages using the company’s new mobile app, available from the Apple Store and Google Play.
  • Report outages via UI’s mobile alerts system: text “OUT” to 78418. Registration is required.
