UI Prepared for Potential Thunderstorms and Prolonged Heat Through the Holiday Weekend

ORANGE, Conn. — July 1, 2026 – United Illuminating (UI), a subsidiary of Avangrid, Inc., is closely monitoring weather conditions and prepared to respond as Connecticut enters a period of hot and humid weather expected to continue into the holiday weekend.

While isolated thunderstorms capable of producing gusty winds are possible today and at times, throughout the coming days, the primary weather concern will be a prolonged stretch of dangerous heat and humidity that may increase the risk of heat-related illness and lead to higher electricity use as customers work to stay cool.

“Our teams are monitoring weather conditions and are prepared to respond should isolated thunderstorms or the extended heat impact our electric system,” said Adam Gaber, UI spokesperson. “We encourage customers to take a few simple steps now to prepare for the days ahead, including reviewing emergency supplies, charging electronic devices, staying hydrated and, in the coming days, checking on family members, neighbors and others who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.”

UI is closely monitoring system conditions throughout the week to enhance its ability to quickly respond should outages occur. The company also encourages customers to prepare for the prolonged heat by staying hydrated, limiting strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of each day, spending time in air-conditioned locations whenever possible and checking frequently on older adults, young children and others who may be especially at risk to extreme temperatures.

To help customers prepare for potential power outages, UI has compiled a storm checklist available at >Storm Checklist - UI. Customers can stay up to date on current outages with UI’s Outage Map, with information on estimated restoration times.
