UI Responding to Power Outages in Wake of Winter Storm

ORANGE, Conn. — January 20, 2019 — (3:15 p.m. EST) — United Illuminating, a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc. (NYSE: AGR), is responding to outages across its service territory in the wake of a winter storm.
The storm continues to deliver a slushy mix and wind gusts of up to 30mph, which will be followed by dangerously cold temperatures this evening and into Monday as the storm moves out of the area. Approximately 8,900 UI customers were without electric service as of 2:30 p.m. Sunday, down from a peak of around 10,700. Among the hardest-hit communities are New Haven with about 4,000 outages, Hamden with about 2,500 outages, as well as Woodbridge and North Haven, each with about 1,000 outages.
UI’s immediate concern in the aftermath of these storms is public safety. With the frigid temperatures expected, crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible. Crews are being brought in from Pennsylvania to assist in these efforts and close to 200 personnel will be in the field by this afternoon.
