Shared Clean Energy Facility Program

Shared Clean Energy Facility Program

Shared Clean Energy Facility (SCEF) Projects provide locally generated, renewable, low-carbon clean energy. The energy from these clean energy projects will benefit all of us in Connecticut for generations to come. To more directly share the benefit of these new facilities, selected customers will receive a credit on their electric bill as part of the benefits from a local clean energy project.

How does it work?

We will identify up to 65 MW of energy from renewable sources over the next 8 years for this program. As these projects are built and become operational, we will select customers to enroll as participants, or “subscribers”, to each project. With a subscription to a Shared Clean Energy Facility, participating customers will receive a monthly bill credit for a portion of the electricity generated by the project for up to 20 years. There is no cost or obligation to participate. This is simply a way to directly share the benefit of clean energy with our customers.

Let’s take a look at how shared clean energy works.

Why Clean Energy?

Clean energy contributes to a cleaner and healthier environment for the community. This program extends the benefits of clean energy to customers who otherwise may not be able to install clean energy generation for their home or business. Click here for a complete list and information on the facilities that are currently providing clean energy to our territory’s electric grid.

How can I participate in the program?

Credits will be issued to customer unable to install clean energy generation and include residential low to moderate income customers, low-income service organizations, landlords of affordable housing facilities, small business customers, commercial, municipal and state customers and, residential customers with homes not suitable for solar PV. See definitions of these eligible customer types.

UI may select up to 80% of the participants in the program. This included customers participating in the energy assistance program or income eligible payment plan programs as well as designated small businesses. Landlords of affordable housing facilities and low-income service organizations will also be considered in the program and are encouraged to submit an online Subscriber Enrollment Form. If you are selected, you will be notified of your subscription along with all other associated details.
