ENERGY STAR® Central Air Conditioner and Central Heat Pump Rebates
Up to $1,500 for Qualifying Systems.
If your heating and cooling system is more than ten years old or needs to be replaced, install an ENERGY STAR® certified system to maximize energy savings.
You want your home to be comfortable year-round, and now comfort and cost can be balanced with the selection of an energy-efficient heating and cooling system for your home.
Selecting and sizing the right system for your home has never been more important. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, heating and cooling account for up to 56 percent of energy used in a typical U.S. home, making it the largest energy expense for most homes.
Fortunately, now there are a wide variety of energy-efficient systems available to heat and cool your home. In addition, many heating and cooling systems have supporting equipment in common, such as thermostats and ducts, which provide opportunities for more energy savings. Finding the most energy-efficient system is easy - just look for the ENERGY STAR. An ENERGY STAR® certified central air conditioner is 15 percent more efficient than a standard system. Those savings can add up.
How We Can Help - We can make it affordable to upgrade your heating and cooling system with mail-in rebates of $200 per unit for qualifying central air conditioning and an instant discount of up to $500 per ton* at participating distributors, for qualifying air source heat pump systems for qualifying air source heat pump systems - provided by the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund.
Differentiating High Efficiency HVAC Systems
There are various kinds of HVAC systems you could have installed in your home which are dependent on where you live, square footage, construction type, and cost. Listed below are the two types available for the rebate.
• A split HVAC system is comprised of multiple sections, an indoor coil section in the ductwork, and an outdoor coil section (compressor/condenser) installed on the outside of the home. Inside the home (attic, basement, closet) there may be a combined fan and air conditioning coil in one box or separate coil and fan sections which can house a gas or oil heating furnace. Note that the installed system must be a matched assembly to qualify for rebate (the two or three components must be matched; more information can be found on the AHRI Directory). Most often, all sections would require replacement to ensure the best efficiency.
• A package system contains all components in one box (compressor, condenser, fan) and is typically found installed outside the home, in some cases on the roof and ducted into the home.
How to Apply for a Rebate
Step 1 - Review the rebate application for details on qualifying central air conditioning systems. Rebates of $200 per unit are available for central air conditioners. An instant discount of up to $500 per ton* is available at participating distributors for qualifying high-efficiency air source heat pumps, as well as an Energy Optimization Rebate of $1,000 per ton*, up to $15,000 per home.
Step 2 - Contact your heating and cooling contractor about what system is right for you.
Step 3 - Have your qualifying unit installed.
Step 4 - Save time and money - click here to apply for the central air conditioner rebate and submit the required documentation online. Rebates are per-unit fixed amounts, paid directly to you, the consumer, or the installation contractor. If you wish, you have the option to mail in the completed application and supporting documentation instead. See the application document for further details.
Air Source Heat Pump Incentives
Heat pump incentives are offered based on system size (tonnage) and are available at two stages of your heat pump project:
Step 1 - Work with an Energize CT Heat Pump Installer to receive an instant discount up to $500 per ton when qualified equipment is purchased from a participating distributor on your behalf. Speak to your contractor to ensure your instant discount is being applied.
Step 2 - Complete your installation and claim an additional $1,000 per ton energy optimization rebate on systems used to replace oil, propane, or electric resistance as a primary heating source. Claim your rebate online or submit a completed Air Source Heat Pump Energy Optimization Rebate Form by mail. Download the rebate here.
Who Is Eligible For a Rebate and Qualifying Systems
Residential customers of UI are eligible to receive incentives on the systems shown below. Equipment must be installed by a licensed contractor in the UI service territory.
Qualifying systems are electric central air conditioning and central air-source heat pump split systems of matched assembly, in which both the condenser unit and the evaporator coil are installed simultaneously. A matched assembly is a model combination that is listed in the AHRI Directory of Certified Equipment. A matched assembly must also include the air handler, furnace, and other components that are used to determine the rating according to ANSI/AHRI STANDARD 210/240-2008. To see a list of qualifying units, visit the CT Qualified Products List (QPL) at EnergizeCT.com.
1 AHRI – Air Conditioning Heating and Refrigeration Institute. All equipment must be rated in the AHRI Air Conditioners and Air Conditioner Coils or Heat Pumps and Heat Pump Coils Directories. Both can be found online on the AHRI website.
2 SEER – Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio
3 HSPF – Heating and Seasonal Performance Factor
4 EER – Energy Efficiency Ratio
5 Heating Capacity Ratio requirement is the minimum equipment performance for heating capacity at 17º F, divided by the heating capacity at 47º F, expressed as a percentage.
*Actual tons are calculated based on AHRI cooling capacity divided by 12,000 BTUs. Rebate amount based on the actual tons. Up to $15,000 per home.
**Qualify for the Energy Optimization Rebate by installing qualifying systems used to replace oil, propane, or electric resistance (baseboard) as primary heating source.
Visit our Ductless Split Heat Pump or Geothermal Heat Pumps pages for incentive information for those systems.
