Old Town Substation Rebuild

About this project:

In April of 2020, The United Illuminating Company (UI) will file an application with the Connecticut Siting Council, 10 Franklin Square, New Britain, CT, for the issuance of a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need to construct and operate a new electric substation and associated facilities in the City of Bridgeport, Fairfield County, Connecticut.

The improvements are necessary to comply with current regulations while addressing compliance and aging equipment needs. This effort will help to strengthen the electric transmission and distribution systems in Bridgeport and surrounding areas, allowing UI to continue to provide reliable electric service to our customers.

Project construction is expected to begin in 2022. The new substation is proposed to be completed and in-service by the end of 2024.
