UI Responding to Widespread Power Outages-05.15.2018
ORANGE, Connecticut — May 15, 2018 (8:45 p.m. EDT) — United Illuminating, a subsidiary of AVANGRID Inc. (NYSE: AGR), is responding to outages across its service territory in the wake of the powerful storms that crossed the state early Tuesday evening.
Approximately 10,000 UI customers were without electric service as of 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, down from a peak of more than 12,000. Among the hardest-hit communities were Hamden, New Haven, North Haven, Shelton and Trumbull. For an updated outage map and list of outages by town, visit uinet.com and go to Outage Central.
UI’s immediate concern in the aftermath of these storms is public safety. Crews will continue to work overnight to address downed wires, assess damage and restore service to customers.
The company urged the public to stay away from downed lines, as well as anything that might be in contact with them. They can be dangerous even if they do not seem to be energized. Keep kids and pets indoors, and stay at least 35 feet away. Never drive over a downed wire. Report them to UI at 800.722.5584. If there is an immediate danger, call 911.
