ORANGE, CT — December 28, 2016 — United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas and Connecticut Natural Gas, the three Connecticut subsidiaries of AVANGRID, INC (NYSE: AGR) recently distributed $280,450 to 44 nonprofit organizations, through the state of Connecticut’s Neighborhood Assistance Act (NAA) Tax Credit Program.
Representatives from the nonprofits gathered Dec. 21 at the Energize Connecticut Center in North Haven, Conn. to accept the donations in recognition of energy efficient improvements submitted for approval by each organization.
“Since 2010, the Connecticut subsidiaries of AVANGRID have donated more than $2,515,000 to nonprofit organizations. The focus is on nonprofits that use the donations for energy conservation projects. For instance, five organizations in Bridgeport have used their donations for building initiatives, including window and roof replacements.
In addition, two regional theatres will use NAA grant funds to improve lighting and energy efficiency. The Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Conn, which recently marked a centennial, will use their donation to support energy conservation upgrades inside the 1,600-seat facility. The Fairfield Theatre Company in Fairfield, Conn will install new exterior lighting during its phase three of its renovation project.
The NAA is designed to provide funding for municipal and tax-exempt organizations by providing a corporate business tax credit for businesses that make cash contributions to these entities. Other 2016 beneficiaries include three state chapters of Habitat for Humanity as well as Connecticut Housing Investment Fund, Inc., the Neighborhood Housing Services of New Britain, Edgewood Elm Housing, Inc. and New Haven Home Ownership Center.
“We take pride in supporting our community partners who are becoming more energy efficient,” said James P. Torgerson, chief executive officer of AVANGRID. “Supporting our community matters because it is at the core of who we are.”
