Commercial and Industrial Rebates

March 30, 2018

Dear Valued Business Customers:

Please be advised that in October of 2017, it was determined by Connecticut State Legislators that a large portion of funds allocated to the CT Energy Efficiency Fund will be diverted to offset the Connecticut state budget deficit over the next two years.

Funds for these and other programs, collected through a charge on UI customers' electric bills, have been used to provide nationally recognized energy efficiency programs that deliver $7 in benefits back to the Connecticut state economy for every dollar invested. This charge has supported a portfolio of programs and initiatives for Connecticut residents and businesses, and has provided valuable energy efficiency savings delivered through a network of highly qualified local companies.

However, as a result of the diversion of state funds from this program, effective April 1, 2018, UI will no longer be able to offer any electric rebates for the Express Lighting, Cool Choice, Clothes Washers, and Kitchen Appliances programs.

We have had to eliminate or reduce incentives across our program portfolio, and continue to work with regulators to determine how these constraints will impact programs for the remainder of 2018 and 2019. Please note that at this time, you will continue to receive this charge on your electric bills.

Our goal is to continue to serve customers to the best of our ability within these budget constraints. As program changes occur, we will provide further information here.

If you have concerns regarding this recent change, we encourage you to contact your legislator. You can find your representative at:

Business customers can improve the energy efficiency of their stores or buildings by retrofitting and replacing equipment with newer equipment that provides the same – or sometimes better – results and comfort while lowering energy use.

Rebates are fixed amounts, provided on a per-unit basis and paid directly to customers after the installation of pre-designated measures using qualified, licensed contractors.
